‘The Nest’ - a Centre devoted to wellness for body, mind and spirit
A Project of the Salesians of Don Bosco, North-East India
The Project in brief: ‘The Nest’ (alternately described also as a Wellness Centre), a place devoted to wellness for body, mind and spirit, is a Centre envisaged by the Salesians of Don Bosco, Province of Guwahati, Assam.
It aims to address the feeling of meaninglessness, pain and depression that are gripping large sections of young and old persons; depression, in fact, is reaching pandemic proportions even among very young persons; divorce rates are alarmingly high; live-in relationships eventually resultin break-ups that affect the mental balance of such persons; alcoholism, drug abuse, addictions and
a promiscuous attitude towards sex and sexuality affect large sections of society today; the loss of a sense of faith and purpose in life afflict many young men and women as well as members in religious and clerical states...
Such a Centre is a crying need of the times for North-East India. Apart from a few professional counselling clinics, there is no Centre of a type that combines care for body, mind and spirit in an integrated manner. The Province of Guwahati intends to be a trend-setter in setting up such a Centre to alleviate the crippling ‘pain (angst)’ that individuals and large sections of society (old and young) experience, unable to find release by sharing their pain in a non-judgemental setting. The Centre will also promote studies to understand and appreciate the complexities of life and living faced by the young and old in the world of today; and offer a variety of services to promote wholesome living – a harmonious wellness of body, mind and spirit by mitigating the impact of the maladies mentioned above.
This Project has been conceptualised by Fr Stephen Mavely out of his long years of experience (over 40 years) in the field of education, counselling and pastoral care. It has been studied, vetted and adopted by the Salesian Society.
‘The Nest’ is envisaged as a joint initiative of the Salesian Province of Guwahati and Assam Don Bosco University, managed and administered by Don Bosco Society Azara (Project Holder) which is a Registered NGO that is the sponsor of Don Bosco University. The Centre will work in tandem with the Department of Psychology of Don Bosco University.
